Master and Margerita

I like the presentation of material a lot better

Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood

Burmese Days by George Orwell

Cakes and Ale by Somerset Maugham

Color of Summer by Reinaldo Arenas

So far, Dark Market is a little too "Dateline expose" for my taste, but I'm only about a third of the way in (maybe it gets better).

Heart of a Dog

Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopedia (Volume 1) -- primarily for research, but it's fascinating.

The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler

Tangled Web (I saw someone else mention it, and it's really really good so far)

Williwaw by Gore Vidal
