I loved the first book which I've reread many times

there are some like myself who only ever liked the first book in the series.

Dune by Frank Herbert (only the first book, dislike the rest of the series)

The Chrysalids[2] and Dune[3][4].

Alternate fan fic depiction of Harry Potter as a hyper-rationalist.

The Martian is great.

The Expanse is good.

Children of Time and Children of Ruin by Adrian Tchaikovsky for almost making me care about non-anthropomorphic spiders.

The Bobiverse was surprisingly good (including the audiobook version).

Dark Matter was a good read if you like parallel universes.

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet and sequels are great world building and characters, although the plots seem to meander about with not too much purpose.

The Wayfarers books The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet and A Closed and Common Orbit were quite good.

Recommend: The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North for beautiful prose, charming writing and an inventive story.
