Easily these (so far): This is How You Lose the Time War - Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone (actually now one of my all-time favorites, without regard to genre. Just amazing) Children of Time - Adrian Tchaikovsky The Book of Strange New Things - Michael Faber Ted Chiang's short story collections (Exhalations and Stories of your life and others) Daemon - Daniel Suarez The City and the City - China Miéville Roadside Picnic - Arkady and Boris Strugatsky (this one still haunts my dreams at times) We Are Legion (We Are Bob) (Bobiverse Book 1) - Dennis Taylor (just finished this series for book club) Galatea 2.2, The Overstory, Bewilderment, The Gold Bug Variations - 4 different books, all by Richard Powers - what can I say, the man is a genius and a treasure Eifelheim - Michael Flynn - ok, this book can be a slog at times, but it is very rewarding for those who persevere, and has stuck in my brain for many years Chocky - John Wyndham - A quiet, delightful surprise Providence - Max Barry - This book flows like a movie. It will make a great movie. I found myself LITERALLY out of breath a couple of times Hench: A Novel - Natalie Zina Walschots - Quirky, memorable…

* Greg Egan’s short story collections, Diaspora, and Permutation City. Fair warning, Egan puts the “hard” in “hard sci-fi”. * Haven’t finished the Expanse final trilogy, but I really enjoyed the first two. * The Wool series * Project Hail Mary, for story reasons I’d recommend the audio book. * We Are Bob trilogy, fourth book is garbage. * Old Man’s War * The Culture Series by Ian Banks * If you enjoyed Seveneves, and thus can tolerate Stephenson’s consistent habit to drop the ball in the last 20% of his books, Diamond Age is enjoyable.

The Bobiverse series by Dennis E. Taylor. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01L082SCI?plink=uiGaVWnYtvU9VuSn&... (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01L082SCI?plink=uiGaVWnYtvU9VuSn&ref_=adblp13nvvxx_0_1_im) Ever dream of being a post-human computer with a free mandate to explore the galaxy as a Von Neumann probe? Then read this series. Not only is the setting interesting, his character development is really well done too. I hate recommending an Audible book (terrible business practices) but Dennis has an exclusivity agreement with them (he’s a new author) and it is actually a really great way to consume his books. They’re narrated by Ray Porter and he really does a fantastic job.

The concepts where novel in all books by Denis E. Taylor so far, or at least I find the way he presents them in a new or unique way. The Singularity Trap sticks out to me as a rather unique way to tell the first contact story but I found the story itself less enjoyable than his other works. I liked the first 3 books of the Bobiverse series but book 4 wasn’t as enjoyable as the rest for me. By favorite book by Denis E. Taylor was Outland, it reminded me of some of the better works of Michael Crichton. To bad he has writer's block when it comes to continuing the story.

Heinlein is always great. Check out B. V. Larson's Swarm and Undying Mercenaries series, Dennis E. Taylor Bobiverse series, and Craig Alanson's Expeditionary Force. Also what I mentioned to OP, what I'm doing my annual re-listen of https://www.goodreads.com/series/51166-troy-rising They're not Heinlein by any means but they're fairly good hard science fiction. The audiobook versions all have fantastic narrators too if one has a commute.

Farmer in the Sky by Robert Heinlein [1] The Complete Robot by Isaac Asimov [2] The Wrong Unit [3] wasn't a bad little humorous tale. Pretty much anything by Timothy Zahn (sans Star Wars novelisations) [4] or Robert Sawyer [5] floats my boat. The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North [6] Barsk: The Elephants’ Graveyard by Lawrence M. Schoen [7] made me care about sentient elephants. Fuzzy Nation by John Scalzi [8] is very funny. Audiobook version narrated by Wil Wheaton. Of ones already mentioned: The Bobiverse was surprisingly good (including the audiobook version). The Expanse is good. With regards to Dune, there are some like myself who only ever liked the first book in the series. (Also there is a good audiobook version out there.) The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet and sequels are great world building and characters, although the plots seem to meander about with not too much purpose. The Martian is great.
