GEB isn't much to do with philosophy at all, it's more focused on computing and touches on philosophy where that seems relevant.

If you've never it I recommend Godel Escher Bach : An Eternal Golden Braid, as it also likes to play with Buddhism.

A good pairing is Atlas Shrugged and The Illuminatus! Trilogy.

I really enjoyed "The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks & Win Your Inner Creative Battles".

A history of western philosophy? GEB and that book don't have much overlap in content

A good pairing is Atlas Shrugged and The Illuminatus! Trilogy.

Last year I read The Swerve: How the World Became Modern by Stephen Greenblatt. It's non-fiction, though I believe the central premise is a little tongue in cheek.

For Buddhism I enjoyed Zen Flesh, Zen Bones by Paul Reps, mainly a collection of translated koans.
