Just finished Annie Jacobsen's "Nuclear War" book last week. Well put together, the timeline is interesting as is the idea that North Korea would use 1MT weapons, and that Russian missile detection is so poor that they can't tell the difference between something overflying them to detonate elsewhere and something aimed at them. I hope that's an incorrect US evaluation. About to start her Biological War.

Read this earlier this year -– enjoyable!
Read that one too. Chilling.
I only read two books. Lost in Maths by Sabine Hossenfelder, and Nuclear War A Scenario by Annie Jacobsen. Both were worthwhile. I want to read more.

Nuclear War: A Scenario, by Annie Jacobsen. It's a short book, with second-by-second description of the unfolding of a research-based hypothetical nuclear war that starts with North Korea launching an ICBM towards the United States. Alarming (as only the facts about the parlous state of detection and defence can alarm) and edifying in one.
"Nuclear War: A Scenario" - Annie Jacobson The book goes through a potential (not far fetched) scenario in which a nuclear war takes place. It's absolutely fascinating the way the story is told, and goes into great detail about the US and other countries nuclear programs, the technology behind said programs, and the devastating effects of these weapons. It was really interesting to learn so much about how much state of the art technology is used in these systems, and reading it will definitely make you think a lot about how close we are as a species to being able to completely destroy ourselves at any moment.
