Movie. Year. Ever: How 1999 Blew Up the Big Screen by Brian Raftery * A Fabulous Creation: How the LP Saved Our Lives by David Hepworth * 1983: Reagan, Andropov, and a World on the Brink by Taylor Downing * The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes and Why by Amanda Ripley * In Your Defence: Stories of Life and Law by Sarah Langford * Springfield Confidential: Jokes, Secrets, and Outright Lies from a Lifetime Writing for The Simpsons by Mike Reiss * Working Actor: Breaking in, Making a Living, and Making a Life in the Fabulous Trenches of Show Business by David Dean Bottrell * Becoming by Michelle Obama * Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress by Steven Pinker * Rush Hour by Iain Gatel…

A few books I read for fun this year: - Armada: Ernest Cline - Very disappointing and predictable - Library of Souls: Ransom Riggs - Easy but engrossing book - Ruby Under a Microscope: Pat Shaughnessy - I find his style of explaining things very accessible - Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End: Atul Gawande - It's a hard subject to think about but helped me to understand that prolonging life and continuing treatment shouldn't necessarily be the end goal for every case. - Go in Action: William Kennedy - A must if you're learning Go lang

Return of a King (William Dalrymple 2013) - A book about the Anglo-Afghan wars of the 19th century. To paraphrase Mark Twain: History doesn't repeat, but it rhymes Being Mortal (Atul Gawande, 2014) - Powerful book about old age and confronting the mortality of our loved ones The Dark Forest (Cixin Liu, 2014) - Wonderful science fiction from China The Peripheral (William Gibson, 2015) - Bleak, near future science fiction. The Water Knife (Paolo Bacigalupi, 2015) - More bleak, near future science fiction.
